John and the Duchess turned a story about South Carolina banning candy from food stamps into an all-out brawl over whether name-brand cookies are worth the extra buck, and the chat had a name for it before the segment even ended: The Great Cookie Wars.

But this is still Boomer Bunker, so the real world didn't get ignored. A Times Square stabbing ended in a police shooting that even NYC's own mayor had to praise. A Los Angeles podcaster got indicted for allegedly threatening to assassinate the president. And a father whose daughter was left disabled by an undocumented driver stood in front of Congress and told Democratic lawmakers exactly what he thought of their sympathy — on camera, no apology. Canada's Prime Minister, meanwhile, is refusing to talk trade until "the memes stop." You can't make this stuff up, and we're not going to pretend it's normal.
